BBQ

My housemates and I are getting ready to have a barbecue tomorrow night. I think this is one of the best social events ever created. It is such a nice way to catch up with friends and family and it is just such a simple idea. I am all about simple and easy. Buy some burgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers. Everyone is happy. Of course you can always get a little more creative to spruce up the meal or create a theme.
I also love that my lovely Joel likes to cook. There is something about cooking on the grill that guys just get a kick out of. But I don't mind, I don't want to be the one responsible for burning every ones meat. I am not really a cook so I am more of a person that sets up and on the clean up crew. And I am ok with that.
The photo above is Joel at the PCPA Scene shop. We are having one of our summer barbecue's during our lunch hour. Joel is using gas (I think) to get the coals hotter faster. He is amazing.

Going green...maybe

I try to do my best in helping the environment. I recycle my glass, cans and plastic. I carpool as much as possible. I don't litter. I use the canvas grocery bags when I go shopping to cut back on plastic. Everyone has them and every store sells them for a dollar or two. So I buy them. I am proud of myself for being "green".

Well at least I was until someone pointed out a flaw in my purchasing all of these bags. My lovely boyfriend said one day that by buying all of these bags I was doing to opposite of helping out the environment. OK so I have about 15 of them. What's the big deal? He said that I was still using resources from the environment. But I think he is wrong. I use them for everything. I use them for shopping, I pack my lunch in them, I keep my knitting in them...the list goes on. It's becoming kind of an addiction. I feel the need to have one from each store that sells them. So if nothing I am a consumer on a budget spending a dollar or two at Albertsons, Vons, Office Depot, Joanne Fabrics, Wegmans, Safeway, Sears, Trader Joe's and even a super market in Scotland called ASDA.
